Hi Richard, I always make door out of hard wood. Hard wood soaks water in a bit longer than soft wood, but this heavy door also releases water slowly into the oven while baking, hard wood lasts ages too. Does it mean you are already about to start cookin'? Or are you cookin' already? Email me some photo of your oven. Link below is to my page on brick oven wooden door making.
