Ken,
I use 13 : 2 : 1 Vermiculite : Portland cement : Lime
Mix all dry ingredients at first then start adding small water amount in stages while mixing - vermiculite won't absorb water. Place nice metal mesh under, after setting it stays softer not hard like concrete. If needed, use the link to my "Building details page" for more on refractory insulations, mortars, concretes, etc. r
