if you have enough dome height you could always lay a bed of those white refractory bricks or tiles on some sand or something to build up the hearth a bit. I got some of those bricks for about 75c. just call around, most places will understand you only need a few bricks and will be happy to offload some...
maybe Rado will have a better idea.
