retrofitting brick barbecue
From the WFO board

I like the idea of converting a part of the brick barbecue already built in my yard to an oven. It's a portion with its back to the chimney, open on top w/ a grate on the bottom; I am thinking all it would need is bricks correctly laid on top and on the bottom & I'd have something approximating an oven.
Its imperfect design notwithstanding, is this even feasible? Can you build new atop old? Can an oven be built with just traditional bricks and mortar that were never intended for use as an oven? I am not even sure when the barbecue was built--probably in the sixties.
