The Darley Air-Set in the bucket is a grey color.
Pre-mix is already mixed. Dry-mix needs you to add water.
If you have black/brown mortar it will be manganese based (maybe Super 3000?..) which is mostly used in high temp environments to melt certain metals.
The combination of different mud's, bricks, temps, and applications requires a new fascinating discussion.
