Old broken bricks, sand & fireclay slurry as insulation between firebricks and slab?

Rado,
The slab I put down is 3" deep - reinforced natch. To save firebricks I am thinking of laying them flat (75mm high) on a bed of old broken bricks, on a bed of sand & fireclay - as insulation between slab & firebrick base. Appreciate your opinion.
Bob.
