Wonderful suggestion!! While I did initial leveling of the hearth with a belt sander, there is no way that I could do this once the dome is in place. After seeing your message, I sprinted down to Home Depot and saw exactly what you were talking about. I am going to see how the oven hearth that I have prepared works out.
If it does not, I will be sure to head out for the disk grinder wheels for leveling the floor further.
