Hi Andrew,
I started building an oven this week. I have been on holiday so had a bit more time, but between Monday and today I have dug out footings, laid concrete, built a concrete block base with the blocks mortared together and laid the concrete slab on top. I have also spent quite a bit of time roaming around Auckland obtaining materials, including proper fire bricks for the hearth. I am hoping to build the dome next weekend and the weekend after, and then spend the following weekend tidying everything up and putting on the roof etc.
We have a pile of old building materials including timber and old chimney bricks (which I will use for the dome) lying around under our house so I have been able to save some money that way, but my budget is about NZ$800. Hope that helps!
Cheers,
Chris
P.S. I am probably the worlds slowest builder of anything so if I can do it you should be fine!
