Not sure if there is any formula. I guess you want it as small as possible to help retain heat and big enough to be useable. I made mine 420mm which seems to be about the norm, although I don't think I would want it much smaller.

Hi all!
Does anyone know of a formula to work out entry width - internal height will be 500mm, entry height 315mm, How critical is width? Any suggestions or experiences would be greatly appreiciated!
