Casting Refractory Concrete?
From the WFO board
Posted by Marc Webster
Hello,
I am looking into building a Wood burning pizza oven. I have seen kits from companies like Renato and Earthstone ovens that are made primarily of Cast refractory concrete. I was curious if anyone here has tried to build forms to cast refractory concrete? I don't see why it could not be done? I would imagine that the commercial units have some sort of internal reinforcing to allow for thermal expansion as well as to hold its rigidity.
I like the plans offered here very much and will most likely order a CD, but the ovens on this site are much too large for my application. I am looking for something with a cooking surface of about 24" x 24". The Earthstone model 60 is 23" x 26" which seems ideal, just costly at $2450 USD.
If anyone has any information on using the plans to build a smaller oven that would be great too.
Best regards,
Marc
