Use of Vermiculite boarding under Fire Bricks
From the WFO board
Posted by David
For reasons of efficiency and time and to an extent hassle free, when I pour my hearth slab,i'd like to pour it over" form worker Masonite" for strength and box it to 100mm. I'd use a normal concrete mix. Then after it has cured, place over it a ceramic blanket(optional) and on top of this "vermiculite boarding" or "ceramic Boarding" and then start placing the firebricks directly on top of the board.
This way the heat should not permeate into the slab, making the need for a vermiculite bedding under the slab & mixing of fireclay/Perlite etc into the cement slab unnecessary. Will this work?
