Ash pit and hot ash vs cold ash question

In your MTo design, is the ash pit used to store RED HOT ashes. Will the ash chamber handle hot ashes as opposed to "cold" ashes?
Would it be best to line the ash chamber with firebricks if hot ashes are to be deposited like when raking out oven in order to make bread? Cold ashes could be raked out the next day when making pizza but bread making is a little different?
