Thanks for your response. It is encouraging and I am thinking the same - to go with the floating slab. I am unfamiliar with EPS - is it a type of foam insulation?
In the book, "The Bread Builders" by Danial Wing and Alan Scott for cold climates they recommend 50 mm of foam insulation under the slab and extending 600 mm past the edge of the slab. I was a little skeptical (mostly because I had not heard of this before) but it sounds like it is the way to go!
