I sort of doubt that it will work. - when camping we often use granite rocks to build the edge of our campfire - and sometimes they split due to heat.
I am guessing that the reason it breaks up and firebrick does not is that firebrick transmits the heat quickly throughout the whole brick (due to design features) where granite transmits heat more slowly and then when one side of the granite is hot and the other is cold and hence the CRACK happen inside the mass of the stone. It is also less porous!!!
