So far I have started my firings with wood stacked from the front to the back (not in the full width or height, though) - small pieces in the front and gradually larger logs towards the back. When the fire reaches the back I have added more wood in the back and then along the sides.
In this way the oven has been almost white after ~1½ hour (see the picture) and completely white after 2 hours.
